Print Collateral
Initially Vonnie did desk-top publications using QUARK software. Soon it was replaced by most of her clients who were using the Adobe Creative Suite. "There have been times when I've even had to use WORD for layout because of the technical requirements of the copywriters I was working with. But believe me, having come up through the times when we stuck type on a galley with wax and hand-cut each color layer with rubylith, I'll use whatever desktop publishing system that's out there. It's really my client's choice." Vonnie's experience is not just in concepting, illustration, copywriting, and layout, she also spec's type, purchases offset and digital printing, and prepares documents for E-publishing. |
Logos
Vonnie knows the importance of branding and believes that the best logos are the simplest ones. Type has to have flair and personality, and yet must be easily readable. When producing a logo, she is sensitive to the differences in which her client's logos will be used. "For the web, we can go with any amount of colors, but must keep images in small resolutions so that they will load quickly. For off-set printing, however, my clients are charged for each color they print and the images must be very large resolutions. Logos must work equally well when shown in black and white or gray scales. Vonnie offers a suite of sizes and color options with each logo she creates so that her clients can be branded in any medium. "And with the OIF logo (to the left), I had to be sensitive to the way that it would be used in video. We animated the 'I' in such a way to break it...thus emphasizing the mission of this organization that works to improve awareness of people with a brittle bone disease affecting more than 30,000 Americans each year." |
Websites
Websites are now as essential as business cards once were. Beyond her undergraduate work, Vonnie studied two years at St. Petersburg College (PTEC) learning web design and internet marketing. "I tend to keep things simple," says Vonnie "because it's now so important to be able to view a site on almost any device." To the left are screen captures taken at the time this website went up. "Please keep in mind that most folk's websites are not stagnant, meaning, they change frequently. So some of these websites have grown and morphed from what are shown here," reminds Vonnie. |
Public Service Announcements
Vonnie's passion is aligned with doing the work of cause-related marketing. Along with story boarding and scripting radio and TV spots, Vonnie has produced scores of collateral and trade advertisements for causes. " I most love events," she confides. "I'm very detail/logistically minded and understand the need to tell stories audibly and visually. There's so much competition with FB events and such, that my designs tend to go rather colorfully." |
